GTSP Python Bootcamp

Tools you should have ready:

  • Visual Studio Code
  • VSC Python extension
  • git
    • git config pull.rebase true
    • git config user.name “YourUserName”
    • git config user.email “YourEmail”
    • git config --global init.defaultBranch main # set default branch name to main instead of master for old clients
  • Your gtsplab.com email address
  • A github account signed up with that gtsplab.com address
  • Your GOGS account

Windows users must use Powershell for command-line tasks. MacOS users can use Terminal.app, but I recommend using Iterm2 instead purely for performance reasons. Linux users are going to do whatever they want and that's fine.

Troubleshooting:

  • SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate: if you're on Windows, you're using curl for crypto instead of the built-in Windows SChannel crypto backend. Type this to fix it: git config --global http.sslbackend schannel
  • If you're on MacOS, you have to log in to GOGS via Safari at least once and save your username and password so it gets stored in your user keychain. The MacOS default git client knows how to get your password out of the keychain to log you in.
