1400h Administrative issues, CA HR laws, 40 hour per week requirement, they'd like a slower pace to get to less than 40 hours a week of combined research + mandatory assignment time.
1445h Commit review
- Sloetjes received some warnings in her terminal for both hers and Karens
- Karen can't use git still
1450h Troubleshoot that
- Karen sees an error message saying that git isn't in the PATH of the container.
cd /; find . -name *git*find / -name git, both are equivalent but the former is best practice for some reason I don't remember- apt list --installed
- dpkg -l
- => revise hypothesis that git isn't in the PATH, conclude that git isn't even installed
- apt is separate from dpkg because of 1) security and 2) apt supports other package formats
- install git via ansible
1520h You have to enable clipboard sharing on a MacOS Zoom host
1530h There doesn't seem to be an easy way to query the apt database for a search term in the descriptions of the installed packages.
TODO: @sloetjes please update these with the mac versions
1545h Went over multiple selection in VSC:
- alt+shift+right arrow = smart selection expand
- ctrl+d = add additional occurances of the selected text, enable multi-cursor mode
- shift+esc = cancel multiple cursor mode
- ctrl+shift+k = delete current line
1600h Sloetjes reports that doing pip install -r requirements.txt gave an unrelated error
1610h apt search setuptools

Explained that debian uses
pythonto meanpython3, but that's not guaranteed for older systems where it meanspython2, so always specify the python major version when referring to packages. -
Playbooks contain plays, which contain tasks
-
yaml sequences = python arrays, mappings = python dicts
-
follow the dashes up and down to see which other elements are part of your sequence/array
-
sequences end when you go draw a line down the list of dashes and it hits something
-
Used
apt showto search for setuptools -
Noted that Ansible really had two errors, one where it said no module named pkg_resources, another one saying it couldn't import setuptools
-
Used
apt-cache showpkgto verify that pkg-resources was in the setuptools package -
Updated playbook to install those packages
-
amd64 = intel 64 bit processors in a Linux context

Packages can also be investigated on the Ubuntu website: https://packages.ubuntu.com/
